Ingredients
For the Pastry:
- 1 sheet puff pastry (or croissant dough)
- 1 tbsp flour (for dusting)
- Butter or non-stick spray (for greasing the pan)
For the Egg & Cheese Filling:
- 3 large eggs 🥚
- 1/3 cup heavy cream 🥛
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese 🧀
- 1/4 cup shredded Swiss or Gruyère cheese
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1/2 tsp salt 🧂
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 cup spinach, diced ham, or other mix-ins (optional)
Topping:
- 1 tbsp Parmesan cheese (optional, for extra flavor)
- 1 egg + 1 tbsp water (for egg wash – optional)
Instructions
1️⃣ Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a muffin tin or ramekins.
2️⃣ Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface. Cut into 4 equal squares (for large soufflés) or 6 squares (for smaller soufflés).
3️⃣ Press the pastry squares into the muffin tin, making sure the edges hang over slightly.
4️⃣ In a bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper.
5️⃣ Fold in the cheeses and any mix-ins like spinach or ham.
6️⃣ Spoon the egg mixture into the pastry-lined muffin tin, filling each cup about 3/4 full.
7️⃣ Gently fold the edges of the pastry inward, leaving some space uncovered.
8️⃣ (Optional) Brush with egg wash for a golden crust.
9️⃣ Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.
🔟 Let cool for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy! 🥐
Notes
✅ Puff pastry shortcut: Store-bought puff pastry works great, but if you want an authentic Panera-style dough, use croissant dough instead!
✅ Mix-ins: Add ham, bacon, mushrooms, or even caramelized onions for extra flavor.
✅ Make ahead: Prepare the egg mixture and keep it in the fridge overnight for a quick morning bake.
✅ Reheating tip: Warm up leftovers in a 350°F oven for 5-7 minutes to keep them crispy!
