Scale
Dry Ingredients:
- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar (for extra moisture)
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients:
- 3 large overripe bananas, mashed (about 1 ½ cups) 🍌
- 2 large eggs 🥚
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted 🧈
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Add-ins:
- ½ to 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark) 🍫
- ½ cup chopped nuts (optional – walnuts or pecans) 🌰
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Oven & Pan
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.
Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt.
Step 3: Prepare the Wet Ingredients
- In another bowl, mash the bananas until smooth.
- Add the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the mashed bananas. Mix well until combined.
Step 4: Combine the Ingredients
- Gradually fold the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined—do not overmix!
- Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
Step 5: Bake the Banana Bread
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
- Sprinkle some extra chocolate chips on top for a gooey finish!
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs.
Step 6: Cool & Serve
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Slice and enjoy with coffee, milk, or even a scoop of ice cream! 🍦
Notes
- For extra moisture, add ¼ cup of Greek yogurt or sour cream to the wet ingredients.
- Use overripe bananas with lots of brown spots for the best natural sweetness.
- For a dairy-free version, use coconut oil instead of butter and dairy-free chocolate chips.
- Gluten-free? Swap the all-purpose flour for a 1:1 gluten-free baking mix.
- Storage: Keep at room temperature in an airtight container for 4 days, refrigerate for 7 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
