Ingredients
Scale
Dough:
- 1 lb pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
- 1 tbsp olive oil (for rolling)
Filling:
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup sliced pepperoni
- ½ cup ham (optional)
- ½ cup sautéed mushrooms (optional)
- ½ cup roasted red peppers (optional)
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
Egg Wash:
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp water
Toppings (Optional):
- 1 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp sesame seeds
Dipping Sauce:
- ½ cup marinara sauce (for serving)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- If using store-bought dough, let it sit at room temperature for 30-45 minutes before rolling.
- Lightly flour a surface and roll the dough into a large rectangle (about 12×16 inches).
Step 2: Layer the Fillings
- Sprinkle mozzarella evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
- Add pepperoni, ham, sautéed mushrooms, and any other toppings of your choice.
- Season with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes.
Step 3: Roll and Seal the Stromboli
- Starting from one long side, tightly roll the dough like a jelly roll.
- Tuck in the edges and place seam-side down on a lined baking sheet.
- Using a sharp knife, make 3-4 small slits on top to allow steam to escape.
Step 4: Apply Egg Wash and Bake
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Brush the mixture over the Stromboli for a golden, crispy crust.
- Optionally, sprinkle Parmesan, oregano, or sesame seeds on top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
Step 5: Slice and Serve
- Let the Stromboli rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
- Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.
