Description

Fresh, vibrant, and bursting with summer flavor, this easy lemonade recipe with fresh watermelon is the ultimate way to stay cool and hydrated. The juicy sweetness of ripe watermelon meets the zing of lemon in a drink that’s equal parts refreshing and delicious. Whether you’re hosting a backyard BBQ or just want a fruity pick-me-up, this recipe is sure to be your new favorite.

Ingredients

Scale

4 cups seedless watermelon, cubed

¾ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 46 lemons)

2 cups cold water (still or sparkling)

24 tablespoons honey or sugar (adjust to taste)

Ice cubes, for serving

Optional: Fresh mint leaves, lemon slices, or frozen fruit for garnish

Instructions

1. Prep the watermelon:
Chop your seedless watermelon into chunks. If your watermelon isn’t already chilled, pop it in the fridge for a bit before blending for a cooler drink.

2. Blend the base:
Add the watermelon cubes to a blender and blend until smooth. This should take about 30 seconds.

3. Strain (optional):
For a smoother texture, pour the blended watermelon through a fine mesh sieve into a large pitcher. If you like some pulp, skip this step!

4. Add lemon juice and sweetener:
Stir in the fresh lemon juice. Add honey or sugar one tablespoon at a time, tasting as you go to find your preferred level of sweetness.

5. Pour in the water:
Add cold still or sparkling water and stir well to combine. Taste again—this is your moment to balance sweetness and tartness.

6. Chill and serve:
Refrigerate the lemonade for at least 30 minutes. Serve over ice and garnish with mint, lemon slices, or even frozen watermelon cubes if desired.

Notes

Too sweet? Add more lemon juice. Too tart? Stir in a bit more sweetener.

Want a fizzy twist? Use sparkling water instead of still.

For a slushie version: Freeze watermelon cubes before blending.

Make it adult-friendly: Add a splash of vodka or rum for a cocktail version.
