For the Toasted Cheese Layer:
- ½ cup shredded cheese per burrito (cheddar or Monterey Jack works best)
Optional Garnishes:
- Sour cream
- Pico de gallo or salsa
- Chopped cilantro 🌿
- Lime wedges 🍋
Instructions
Prepare the Burrito Filling:
- In a large skillet, cook the seasoned ground beef over medium heat until fully browned. Drain excess fat.
- Warm the rice and black beans in the microwave or stovetop.
- Chop any additional vegetables (bell peppers, onions, etc.).
Assemble the Burrito:
- Lay a large flour tortilla flat on a clean surface.
- Spread a layer of sour cream, followed by rice, beans, ground beef, salsa, and guacamole.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese over the fillings.
- Fold in the sides, then roll the tortilla tightly into a burrito.
Toast the Cheese on the Outside:
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
- Sprinkle ½ cup of shredded cheese directly onto the hot pan, forming an even layer.
- Immediately place the rolled burrito, seam-side down, on top of the cheese.
- Let it cook for 2-3 minutes, until the cheese melts and crisps up into a golden, crunchy layer.
- Carefully lift the burrito with a spatula, ensuring the cheese sticks to the tortilla.
Serve & Enjoy!
- Transfer the cheese-toasted burrito to a plate and let it sit for 1 minute to allow the cheese to set.
- Slice the burrito in half and serve with salsa, guacamole, and sour cream.
Notes
- Want extra crunch? Let the cheese toast an extra 30 seconds before flipping.
- Customize it! Try different fillings like shredded chicken, steak, or grilled veggies.
- No beans? Swap them for grilled mushrooms or extra cheese!
- Spice it up! Add jalapeños, chipotle mayo, or hot sauce inside the burrito for an extra kick.
- Make it vegetarian: Skip the meat and use seasoned tofu or grilled veggies instead.
